Island Bakery Organics

The Island bakery is a family run bakery on the island of Mull. They have been producing fine biscuits for many years now and I’m sure many years to come. The biscuits can be found in lots of wee farm shops all over Scotland and deli’s throughout the UK.

The Jam Kitchen / Craigies

The Jam Kitchen is based at West Craigies Farm, South Queensferry next to the Forth Road Bridge. The Jam Kitchen is a family run business steeped in history. The farm is run by John Sinclair but it was his great grandfather that came to manage the farm in 1892 for Lord Rosebery. The farm has diversified over the years and now produces not only soft fruits but cereals and potatoes. In June this year West Craigies Farm opened a fantastic farm deli boasting a large range of Scottish produce. You can also get a great meal there too. A great day out picking fruit and eating good food.

Gillies Fine Foods

Gillies Fine Foods is based in the Scottish Highlands, surrounding itself with high quality local growers. The business has grown from a kitchen enterprise started by couple Su and Ruari Gillies 9 years ago, to a newly built premise in Dingwall 3 years ago. All the produce is handmade in small batches achieving the ultimate in quality control. The product produced by Gillies Fine Foods are all full of flavour and it was very hard for our Wee Foodie to choose what to put in the boxes.

The Really Garlicky Company

The "stinking rose" or perhaps more elegantly, "the fragrant pearl," whichever you choose the Really Garlicky Company in Nairn have created garlic heaven. Set up by Glen and Gilli Allingham in 2002 it now has a large range of garlicky products to offer. Nearly all the garlic in the products is grown on the farm with a few of their rubs coming from Canada. The oatcakes and the relish are just delicious, no need to worry about vampires!

Congratulations from all of us at The Foodie Company for winning the Glenfiddich Spirit of Scotland Award 2006. Well Done.

SuperJams

Well were do I start with SuperJams. So much to say! Ok, SuperJams was started by 18 year old Fraser Doherty when he was 14 in his mum’s kitchen in Edinburgh. Two years later he was producing 1000 jars a week. Still from his mum’s kitchen! I’m not sure about Fraser but starting a business from your family home as I have done with Foodieboxes can cause a little bit of friction when hundreds of jars turn up on your doorstep. That aside, Fraser has become extremely successful picking up numerous awards, most recently The Global Student Entrepreneur Awards in Chicago. Well Done.

Nicoll’s of Strathmore

Nicoll’s of Strathmore is a well established food manufacturing business located in Perthshire, Scotland. It produces a large range of preserves and other foodie items but really has mastered the art of honey making. I’m not sure if it’s the bees that make good honey or the people, I’m sure it’s a team effort
